Railway Competence Group
Ofqual-regulated awarding organisation (RN6118) and Rail assessment specialist

Ofqual, the regulator of qualifications and assessments in England, has launched the Ofqual Teacher Hub. It brings together practical guidance and ready-to-use resources for teachers and other school and college staff who prepare students for exams and assessments.
What the hub covers
The hub is organised around the exam cycle, with clear explainers on how the qualifications system works. Featured guides include:
- Before exams and assessments: non-exam assessment, planning for disruption, cyber security, private candidates and access arrangements
- During the exam season: when exams take place, how they are administered, malpractice and maladministration, special consideration and error reporting
- After exams and assessments: marking, grading, results days, appeals, resits and complaints
Further resources
The hub also includes:
- an understanding grading toolkit explaining how GCSE and A level exams are graded
- classroom resources on the use of AI in coursework and assessed work
- resources to support exams officers across GCSE, A level, T Level and vocational and technical qualifications
- information on the National Reference Test
The three main guides were updated on 7 September 2026, ahead of the new academic year.
Why it matters beyond schools
Many of the same principles apply to apprenticeship end-point assessment: fair access arrangements, secure delivery, consistent marking and a clear route to appeal. As an Ofqual-recognised awarding organisation, Railway Competence Group welcomes clear, practical guidance that helps everyone involved understand how assessment works.
